bubbles in the rain
wow, life is quite easy out here! when it rains, we can still just play outside, and it's not a huge hassle getting gear on, packing a bag, having a plan, packing snacks....we just simply put on some boots, and go outside (and i grab a cup of coffee and relax, i could really get use to this!!)
the kids managed to fill this entire tiled area with bubbles, it was quite impressive!

1845 Gough Street
well our days here are coming to an end, and although we know our future will be peaceful and centered, there lies a quiet chamber of sadness. it comes up at different times for all of us, but it's there. this place holds so many memories for our little family and we have dug our heels deep into this city, finding our way. friends became family, struggles became triumph, and we somehow ended up raising 2 beautiful and very "californian" kids here. we are saying good bye to 1845 gough street, we won't miss those long drives around the neighborhood looking for a parking spot, we won't miss the 4 hour laundry session every friday afternoon-because we never ended up getting the washer and dryer we were promised 4 years in a row, we won't miss the "diversity" of the SFUSD system, and we won't miss the smell of dog piss every morning on the corner of the entry way.......BUT, we will miss you, as our home, as our calmness from the city life (well as calm as 700 sq. feet can be with two kids running around), and as our very first californian address. we did it! and we may even come back again someday.
the mini house
santa brought quinn a doll house this year, and is quite the hit. not what i had when i was a child, but definitely something i would love to live in now:) our good friend jake ruch (who also built the kids bed) helped out with this project and is actually starting a new furniture biz "reason". we went with mostly natural tones and added a few accent colors (to make it fun) and then had to add solar panels.
quinn moves all the furniture to the front when she plays (or she sends everything down the roof, which she thinks is a slide)

the garden (and it looks like the family is quite daring......maybe they're in the circus or something?)

ryder's birthday circle
we celebrated ryder's 5 1/2 year old birthday on january 25th at his preschool. he was so excited and has been looking forward to this day all year long. he was so worried he wouldn't have a birthday circle because of his summer birthday, but his teacher is so in tuned with these 5 year olds, she did a half birthday for ryder!
this is his 1/2 candle that he walked around the circle of friends with, while each student quietly whispered "happy 1/2 birthday ryder, we love you". oh man, it was the sweetest thing ever and ryder had a smile across his whole face......priceless!!!!

the birthday kid brings in gifts for his friends (what a clever idea, huh). ryder brought everyone a match box car, and bubble tubes.
